Parkseminar Stolberg (Harz)

This years Parkseminar took place at Schloss Stolberg from 16th to 18th October. Our office has been commissioned since 2008 with the research, historical excavations and documentation of the site
and, since 2009, with the design and realization of all external areas. We helped prepare the Parkseminar and lectured during the weekend event.

The working seminar was a challenge for all participants, as old trees had to cut back, sight lines cleared, hawthorn trees planted and steps restored. For the theoretical part of the seminar, lectures
were held about the location of Stolberg, the gardens, parks of the region and historic gardens in general. The seminar and agenda was a joint action of local cooperation partners and the heritage
authorities.

Event organisers:   Local authority Suedharz / German Heritage Foundation / Gartenträume - Historic parks in Saxony- Anhalt.

FEDERAL GARDEN SHOW (BUGA) 2015 IN THE HAVEL REGION - RETROSPEKTIVE

The current Federal Garden Show closed it's gates on the 11th October. It was the first 'decentral' garden show of it's kind - stretching over five towns and 53 hectares. In total there were more than 1.050.000 visitors. The new, sustainable concept combined town planning, landscape and touristic aspects of all five towns. Presently the sites are being prepared for the handover to the local authorities.

An office trip in September gave us the opportunity to view the planting areas designed by our office.

Due to the high content of grasses in the plantings, the autumnal aspect was especially effective. The heather garden was as very beautiful at this time of year.

We hope that all planting areas will be retained and can offer variety and beauty to the park for years to come!

20th office anniversary

There is yet another reason to celebrate! This year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary. The office was founded in 1992 in Bad Homburg near Frankfurt - who would have thought that we would be realising our vision of landscape design and town planning here in the heart of Germany - in Weimar, Thuringia. We were commisioned with our first projects in Thuringia in 1993 and soon after established a second office in Bad Berka. As it is so beautiful here we decided to move our main office here in 1994. From then on our spectrum of projects increased - historic parts and hospitals in central Germany to hotel and club landscapes in carribean and mediterranean countries. And so the office grew - now we have a core of 10-15 staff. So... now we will celebrate. Where ? In our new office garden in the village of Nermsdorf. Learn more: www.imdorfe21.de

IFLA World Congress of Landscape Architecture

The IFLA World Congress of Landscape Architecture from 27-29 June in Zürich was a resounding success. Almost 1400 guests and delegates made their way to the swiss city and were rewarded by an almost overwhelming selection of lectures, sessions, round tables, technical visits and informal get-togethers.

Under the overall title ‚Scales of Nature’ the congress investigated, on an international scale, urban areas, peri-urban areas and rural land and all the challenges they present to the Landscape Architect.

Zürich was a wonderful location to show these themes as all are concentrated into the narrow confines of the Limmat valley. Switzerland is also a hot-bed of contemporary landscape architecture with many exciting projects to visit.

More information is available at www.ifla2011.com

The next venue is Cape Town South Africa.

Opening of the renovated gardens of Stolberg castle in the mountains of Harz

On the 23 June 2011 the south terrace, the first section of the renovated garden surrounding Stolberg Castle, was opened by the Prime Minister of Sachsen-Anhalt Rainer Haseloff.

The renovation and construction of the south terrace included the garden pavilions and is part of a major project and is begun in 2009 and initiated by the town of Stolberg and the German Foundation for Heritage Preservation (Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz). Rittmannsperger Architekten Darmstadt carried out the building design.
